Chapter Twenty-Eight – Holiday Travels Part II

Within minutes of leaving Singapore, Dragon landed lightly in the ticketing area.

Unfortunately, because he was in a hurry, he had forgotten to look for an open door or window and had just made a dragon shaped hole in the ceiling.

Mommies boyfriend tried to capture the action with his phone, but unfortunately it just looked like he had video’d a couple of tiles falling from the ceiling.

Quickly, he scrambled onto Dragons back, holding onto the scales right behind Dragon’s ears.

‘We have to get the luggage, Boo said not to forget it’.

Dragon looked quizzical, any idea where it might be ?

‘Well, I suppose that it is in the holding area somewhere, we have not got the tickets yet.’

Dragon took off like, well, like a startled Dragon, which unless you have never seen one, is somewhat hard to explain, it was very fast and the noise was something akin to rustling leather and razor sharp talons being scraped down a blackboard. Almost half of the people in the area cringed as one.

Dragon and his passenger shot through the airport, flying the wrong way though no-entry corridors, straight past the X-ray and metal detectors, which obviously went somewhat crazy, then burst into the arrivals hall. Dragon was looking for a conveyor belt luggage delivery system and he was suddenly faced with a dozen of them. He chose the closest one and flew towards the hole that the luggage emerges from, just as the first few cases from flight number XZ128, the 23:30 from Amsterdam started to wobble through.

Dragon sniffed.

He sniffed again.

‘Edam !’

Forgetting where he was and that he was on a mission to retrieve some luggage, he pounced on a case and shredded it. As he suspected it contained two whole wheels of Edam, freshly made in Holland. It took hime less than five bites to devour them, before he pounced on the next case (Gouda) and relieved it of its contents too. He pounced on the third case, which exploded in a shower of glass and eau de perfum.

‘Ahhh’

Dragon looked to be in agony

‘Ahhhh’

Mommies Boyfriend could feel the sneeze brewing, he seemed to instinctively know what was coming.

‘Ahhhhh-Choooooo !’

The fire-ball ripped through the luggage delivery area, workers dived for cover, bits of melted rubber from the belts flew in every direction and the suitcases, oh dear, the suitcases. Not a single suitcase for about 100m survived the blast.

‘Oops’

Dragon looked around at the wreckage. It was bad, there were bits of suitcase, peoples luggage and melted cheese all over the place. Mommies Boyfriend looked horrified too.

‘Hey, look, over there Dragon’ Mommies Boyfriend had noticed a luggage truck with what looked suspiciously like Boo’s suitcase on it.

Dragon too had spotted it, a quick hop and they were there. A quick slash of the talons freed the luggage from the straps and moments later they were airborne with the luggage held down with some extra strong elasticated ropes that, rather inexplicably, Mommies Boyfriend had been carrying in his hand luggage.  ‘Just in case we needed them’.

Half an hour later, Mommies Boyfriend was busy filming the flight over Africa, they had dropped quite low towards the ground and were playing a game of ‘Alphabet Animals’. Despite Dragon’s amazing eyesight, it seemed that Mommies Boyfriend was something of a walking encyclopaedia, he had so far pointed out an African Civet, which trumped Dragons Antelope, and also a bactrian camel that trumped Dragons ‘Bird’. ‘Hey look, a ‘Capybara’…. Dragon did not like this game too much, he had just spotted a centipede, but again Mommies Boyfriend won this round again.

By the time they reached ‘P’, for which Mommies Boyfriend spotted a Puss Moth, compared to Dragons’ ‘Purple Beetle’, the score was 14-2 to Mommies Boyfriend. Dragon was on the edge of sulking, when he realised that there was no way that anyone was going to find a ‘Q’, so the game was probably over.

‘Quail!’ shouted Mommies Boyfriend.

‘Grrrrr’

After a few short minutes, Rhinoceros, Stick Insect, Tang, (nothing at all), Velvet Monkey, Whale Shark and Yorkshire Terrier that belonged to a tourist, they were hunting for Z…..

Dragon was convinced that he would be able to spot a Zebra, but Mommies Boyfriend pointed out that their costs act as amazing camouflage.

‘Ah-ha, there is a Zonkey !’

Dragon had never heard of a zonkey and accused Mommies Boyfriend of making it up as he goes along.

A short while later they headed out over the oceans again, ‘Hey, can we stop off in Hong Kong please, I need to see if I can get some new gadgets’.

As Dragon had lost so badly at Animal Alphabet, he agreed.

They landed in the downtown area right outside a shop called ‘Sin Tat Plaza’, which Dragon explained is also known as Sincere Podium. Mommies Boyfriend practically ran inside, it was his idea of heaven. Dragon sat outside, guarding the luggage and watching the people wandering by. There were countless people milling around and one, very lovely, female dragon.

Dragon blinked.

He was not sure if he had imagined it, but he was sure he had just noticed a beautiful red and gold lady dragon in the vicinity, but no matter where he looked, he could not see her again.

Eventually Mommies Boyfriend emerged from the shop carrying several rather large bags of gadgets. ‘Can we nip over to Wing Shing Photo Supplies’ please ?

Dragon boggled, ‘What on earth have you got in those bags ?’

‘Well, there is an automatic tea-maker, a rice cooker, an automatic shoe lace tying gadget for Boo and a nuclear powered pencil sharpener and….’

Dragon was only half listening, he had spotted the beautiful red and gold dragon again. They took to the air and Dragon followed her, luckily it seemed that she too was heading to the camera shop.

Dragon landed in the car park, but the red and gold dragon simply circled while Mommies Boyfriend went hunting for a ‘big lens’.

Half an hour later and with the final batch of purchases loaded, they took to the air, still the red and gold dragon circled them and finally Mommies Boyfriend noticed her. ‘Looks like we have company’

‘Yes, she is so beautiful, isn’t she ?’

‘well yes, I think she is’ He looked at the magnificent red and gold dragon that was now flying less than twenty feet away, she seemed to be very powerful, maybe not quite as large and muscular as Dragon, but more streamlined and more gracious. Her huge brown eyes seemed to almost have a fire behind them. She was, truly beautiful.

Minutes later they had crossed the sea and were once more flying low over Singapore. both Dragons now in close formation. To any onlookers that actually believed in dragons, it must have been a magnificent sight.

They landed, as one, next to the swimming pool, Boo and Mommy where waiting for them, Boo had plenty of snacks and Mommy had a stiff drink for her boyfriend.

Boo looked slightly puzzled, ‘Who is your friend’, she asked.

Dragon smiled and inhaled a packet of smokey bacon crisps. I’m not sure, she followed me from Hong Kong.

‘What were you doing in Hong Kong ?’

‘Gadgets’, pronounced Mommies Boyfriend and promptly scatted three shopping bags from Hong Kong all over the floor.

In the ensuing chaos, nobody noticed as the two dragons flew into the air, soaring wing-tip to wing-tip into the distance.

‘Wow’ said Boo, it looks like Dragon has a girlfriend.

‘Come on, lets get in side, I’m sure you need some coffee after than flight, and you young lady need a nap, we have been on the go for hours, if you have a snooze now we will wake you up for dinner later.’

Boo was tired, but also fascinated, Dragon had found a girlfriend, that was so awesome.

As she fell into sleep, her head was filled with images of of dragons flying loops around each other.

‘Wake up Boo’

She felt like she had only been asleep for a few minutes.

‘Is it dinner time already ?’

‘No sweetie, its time to go, we managed to get our tickets changed and now we have to get on the plane’.

Boo was confused, ‘but Dragon brought us here, its not time to leave ?’

‘No sweetie, it is time to get on the plane, out flight leaves soon, we will be in Singapore by the morning.’

Boo realised that she was still in the ticketing area, she had been dreaming. ‘Oh, thats good’.

An hour later they were on the plane and heading towards Singapore at several hundred miles an hour. She flipped up the blind and for a fleeting moment, she spotted Dragon circling the plane, being pursued by a rather beautiful red and gold dragon…….
